Ubuntu 12.04? That't pretty old.

Mandos 1.4 is really old. I would recommend using the latest version of
Mandos with the latest version of Ubuntu.
If you really need to use Ubuntu 12.04, I would suggest compiling your
own package of the latest version of Mandos:
1. Install the required packages:
bzr, bzr-buildeb, build-essential, devscripts, debhelper,
docbook-xml, docbook-xsl, libavahi-core-dev, libgpgme11-dev,
gnutls-dev, xsltproc, pkg-config, systemd, python2.7,
python2.7-gnutls, python2.7-dbus, python2.7-avahi, python2.7-gobject
(Note: systemd is needed only for compilation, not at runtime or for
installation.)
2. Check out the source code from the repository:
bzr branch ftp://anonymous@ftp.recompile.se/pub/mandos/release mandos
3. Build the Debian package:
cd mandos
bzr builddeb --builder='debuild -i -us -uc -b'
If there are no errors, the .deb package files should now be built and
can be found in the parent directory.
After installing a package, follow the instructions in the file
"/usr/share/doc/package-name/README.Debian".
