Here’s what’s happening right now in the Halls of Mandos:

A fail-to-compile bug on AMD64 has been fixed, a very large thanks to
Mooie <mooie at cow.se> for doing this! (And thanks to Frans Pop
<elendil at planet.nl> for reporting it.)

If I’m reading the build logs of the Debian package for version
1.0.2-1 right (at
<http://buildd.debian.org/~luk/status/package.php?p=mandos>), this
means that all known problems with the Debian package have now been
fixed. (The “-z relro” fail-to compile bug on almost all
architechtures was fixed in 1.0.3, as was the universal XInclude
problem when building the manual pages.) Therefore, I’m thinking of
releasing 1.0.4 with which we have now in the trunk
<ftp://anonymous@ftp.fukt.bsnet.se/pub/mandos/trunk>, but I’m not sure
if we should do it so soon after the 1.0.3 release. What do you
think?

We/I released version 1.0.3-2 of the Debian package the other day, but
there seems to have been some problem with it, since the old
.orig.tar.gz and the new .orig.tar.gz did not have the same checksum,
but they should have been the same, since there was no “upstream”
change. I’m thinking that bzr-builddeb, the tool we use to build
debian packages from our GNU Bazaar branch of Mandos, rebuilt the
.orig.tar.gz and used the newer one. I’m not sure how to fix this,
but it is not crucial, since it will not affect “upstream” releases,
only Debian-revision-only updates. We will have to fix this someday,
though; we can’t do upstream releases all the time.

In other news, we finally (after three months of waiting) got our
*official* DNS SRV Service Type registered! See for yourself at
<http://www.dns-sd.org/ServiceTypes.html>. We now officially exist.
That is, anyone can now run Mandos servers announcing themselves on a
network as service type “_mandos._tcp” without officially violating
any standards. :-)

/Teddy
