I must admit to being at fault here; it completely slipped my mind
while writing the script that AWK has alternatives besides the GNU
version.  I have now rewritten the script to use "cut" instead, which
is a better fit to the desired functionality, anyway.

I am sorry for causing this problem, and I thank you for reporting it!
